(Hong Kong, 28 May 2024)— Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) led 30 park companies to participate in the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), showcasing a wide range of cutting-edge medical technologies and market-ready solutions to global experts, investors, corporates, and industry partners. It helped attract investment and collaboration opportunities while reinforcing HKSTP’s commitment to establishing Hong Kong as an International Health and Medical Innovation Hub.
Hong Kong’s forward-looking Life and Health Technology sector is capturing global attention
As one of the flagship programmes in the fourth International Healthcare Week, the Medical Fair is the city’s premier industry event. Held from 26 to 28 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), HKSTP actively supported its park companies in presenting their latest innovations, fortifying Hong Kong’s leading position in medical innovation.
Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, said, “HKSTP is dedicated to driving the development of medical and life and health technology, leading technological innovation, and establishing a platform for I&T companies to expand their international networks. This year’s Medical Fair focused on the latest development trend of digital health and smart hospitals. Through this significant event, we hope to demonstrate Hong Kong’s medical I&T achievements to the world while fostering global partnership and seizing new possibilities, to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as an International Health and Medical Innovation Hub.
Six projects to experience smart hospitals
This year, HKSTP has set up an exhibition area themed "Digital Health & Smart Hospitals," featuring six major projects, including technologies to enhance patient admission processes, tools for consultation, surgeries, rehabilitation, patient care in wards, and continuous monitoring at home. It offers multiple AI-empowered smart medical solutions and innovative technologies to enhance healthcare quality, operational efficiency, and user experience.
Highlights include the HandTasker, an exoskeleton rehabilitation solution for stroke patients, developed by Hopebotics. A handheld breath ketone analyzer developed by AusMed, which accurately measures ketones within three minutes from a single breath, assisting diabetes patients in monitoring ketosis and weight control. An AI health monitoring app developed by PanopticAI, which uses a smartphone or tablet camera to monitor users' health data, such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
The park companies also host seminars during the Medical Fair to explore how to apply AI and data governance in the medical and healthcare fields, as well as strategies to stand out in the Silver market. HKSTP houses more than 500 companies specializing in healthcare technology transformation, with 75 focused on developing gerontechnology solutions.
HKSTP will continue to attract overseas, the Mainland, and local companies, fostering industry collaboration, accelerating commercialization of hospital and healthcare technologies solutions, and providing platforms for solution testing. Designated personnel will be appointed to coordinate relevant work, facilitate resource integration and industry connections, thus strengthening the medical technology ecosystem.
