Prof. Dennis Lo revolutionised the way prenatal testing is done with his invention of NIPT (Non-invasive Prenatal Testing). After discovering the presence of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma in 1997, the current Scientific Director of Centre for Novostics Limited spent the next 14 years translating his research into the NIPT platform, driven by the concept that a fetus is capable of sending genetic messages to the mother. Now used in 90 countries around the world, NIPT has made screening for birth defects safer and less stressful for pregnant women and their families. Dennis has always been driven to do something that has never been done before, and continues to apply his molecular biology expertise to other pioneering research projects.
