Anushka Purohit is proving that trash can become treasure. Using funds she won in a social innovation competition, she pitched her idea of making beer out of surplus bread — an idea that has now grown into Breer Limited. Her company is currently pioneering sustainable drinking in Hong Kong, tackling food wastage by preventing over 16,000 kg of leftover bread from going to waste. Through her innovative product, she has encouraged people to rethink their consumption choices and look for opportunities, no matter how big or small, to make a difference.
“Be MAD — be crazy with your ideas, and always think about how you can make a difference. Life is too short to have an idea but not try it out. Always give it a shot so you never have any regrets! If it works out, congratulations, and if it doesn't, there are plenty of lessons to take away and start again.”
