HKSTP Welcomes “Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou” Innovation Cluster Ranks First in WIPO’s Global Innovation Index

(Hong Kong, 1 September 2025) — Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) welcomes the announcement today that the "Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou" innovation cluster has been ranked first in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025.
This outstanding achievement is not only a high recognition of Hong Kong's strength in innovation and technology (I&T), but also a strong endorsement of the city’s active collaboration with the Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities in building a globally competitive I&T ecosystem. This year’s announcement is particularly significant as the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) released its World’s Top 100 Innovation Clusters ranking in Hong Kong for the very first time, underscoring the city’s pivotal role as an international innovation hub.
As Hong Kong’s largest I&T ecosystem, HKSTP is committed to attracting and nurturing technology talent, providing comprehensive support spanning research incubation, commercialisation and market expansion. Deeply integrated into the GBA’s innovation and industrial chains, HKSTP facilitates the synergy among industry, academia, and research, laying a solid foundation for strengthening the global technological competitiveness of Hong Kong and the GBA.
Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of HKSTP, expressed his delight at this year’s remarkable result, "We are thrilled that the GII 2025 top 100 innovation clusters was announced at the Hong Kong Science Park, a highly meaningful occasion for our I&T community. This accomplishment reflects the significant success of Hong Kong and the GBA cities in integrating innovation resources, enhancing cross-border collaboration, and advancing high-tech development. It also affirms the robust local R&D capabilities and our capacity to turn innovative ideas into tangible outcomes. We have built a thriving I&T ecosystem and will continue to serve as a key bridge, promoting the internationalisation and industrialisation of Hong Kong’s I&T sector. By fully harnessing the synergies of innovation collaboration, we will continue to propel economic growth powered by I&T.”
