(Hong Kong – 30 October 2024) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) leads ten high-potential technology enterprises from the park to exhibit at the Eco Expo Asia 2024, from today until 2 November 2024. The event showcases a variety of green technology that can be integrated into daily life. This year's Expo has attracted over 300 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions. HKSTP collaborated with these enterprises to present their research and commercialised green technology solutions to international buyers, aiming to help partner companies expand their global business and promote innovative technologies to achieve carbon reduction goals, thereby accelerating Hong Kong's development into an international green technology hub.
Mr Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, said, "We are continually advancing on the path of sustainable development, this participation aims to showcase Hong Kong's achievements in green technologies to domestic and international communities, including several solutions leading the world. This exhibition will enhance the influence of Hong Kong's green technology in the market and foster the vigorous growth of our innovation ecosystem."
The HKSTP pavilion, themed ‘Green & Smart Community for Sustainable Living,' showcased green solutions with market potential across areas such as 'Green Mobility,' ‘Green Spaces in Living,' and ‘Eco-Friendly Practice.' These cutting-edge solutions successfully attracted the attention of global buyers at the exhibition, creating boundless business opportunities and further demonstrating Hong Kong’s research and innovation prowess. This underscores the global impact of local technological advancements. The solutions from park companies featured at the pavilion included:
- World's First Solar-Powered and Wireless Charging PAPC System - Locolla is the parent company of the locally renowned shared bicycle brand, LocoBike. By integrating electric bicycles with solar energy storage, wireless charging, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, they provide an innovative green charging solution for shared electric bikes. This initiative has attracted attention from Shell, the world’s second-largest oil company, which has included it as a technological partner in its "Shell Renewable Energy Mobility" programme. The system is currently being piloted in university campuses, tourist areas in mainland China, including Chengdu, Leshan, and Jinan. It is also operational in Taiwan’s large industrial zones. Locolla joined hands with Citybus earlier this year and launched Hong Kong’s first ever Bus-Bike interchange scheme on “Ma On Shan – Sai Sha” bus network. Recently, both of them have launched the Bus-Bike interchange scheme on Route 79, serving the North District, Tai Po, Sha Tin and Tai Wai to provide seamless interchange between public transport and the bike share scheme to facilitate citizens and tourists, accelerating the green tech development in the community.
- Global Leading Water-Cooled Smart Battery System - One Energy has launched an intelligent battery swapping station system, featuring a water-cooled system design and integrated automated fire extinguishing system that accelerates charging time and reduces the risk of incidents due to overheating. They also manufacture electric motorcycles, successfully expanding their local R&D to markets in Africa, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries.
- Smart Grower Combined with Horticultural Therapy to Promote Mental Health and Well-being - Growgreen showcased another highlight at the exhibition with the aspara® hydroponic Smart Grower system. Users can grow fresh fruits and vegetables in an eco-friendly, energy-efficient way and integrate it with educational software for STEM education. Additionally, Growgreen and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Nursing published a joint study showing that horticultural therapy assisted by aspara® technology effectively reduces stress in the elderly and their caregivers, enhancing their happiness index. The system also analyze the mental health data of elderly users, facilitating further therapy.
- Innovative 'Zero Plastic' Paper Coating Packaging - Papkot utilises silicon (the most abundant material on Earth) and fibre, employing nanotechnology to create a coating that gives paper plastic-like properties. This technology can be applied to various types of food packaging.
- Recycled Plastic Turned into 'New Timber': Waterproof, Durable, and Easy to Maintain - Newtechwood offers a comprehensive service for the research, production, and sale of wood-plastic composite materials. Their latest product is made from 85% recycled plastic, creating a 'new timber' suitable for outdoor flooring, garden fences, and building exteriors. This product has been applied in over 50 countries across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
- Hydropower Systems for Buildings Achieving Sustainable Development - Green Vigor’s patented Hydro Power Intelli - Recycle HPIRS - recycle neglected energy from water supply system in buildings and convert to renewable energy (green electricity), for achieving sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions. They have also integrated artificial intelligence to monitor water quality and usage data.
Mr Howard Lee, Associate Director, GreenTech of HKSTP will attend the ‘Eco Asia Conference 2024: Green Innovations & Technology towards Carbon Neutrality in Built Environment’ forum. He will share insights into cutting-edge green innovation technologies, industry development trends, and the Science Park’s role in nurturing startups and fostering a green technology ecosystem.
The Hong Kong Science Park is home to over 160 green tech companies and continuously strives to lead in green innovation. In August this year, HKSTP announced that its net-zero target was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), making it the first statutory body in Hong Kong to receive SBTi approval for its net-zero goal set for 2045.
