HKSTP Leads Delegation of Tech Companies to Tianjin Alongside Financial Secretary for the Summer Davos

(Hong Kong, 25 June 2025) — Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has led a delegation of 11 cutting-edge tech companies to Tianjin as part of a visit by Financial Secretary Paul Chan to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2025, (also known as the Summer Davos). The delegation joins global leaders and experts to explore how entrepreneurship and innovation can fuel new engines of economic growth, while forging stronger international ties in innovation and technology.
During the visit, Financial Secretary Paul Chan, leading representatives from about 20 startups from the HKSTP, Cyberport and the Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited, visited the Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industrial Development Area. They visited two enterprises in the area and held a roundtable meeting with about 30 Tianjin-based tech companies to discuss further co-operation directions and strategies between Tianjin and Hong Kong's innovation sectors, and promote exchanges and interface between enterprises of the two places, fostering collaboration and mutual benefits. The participating companies are engaged in various innovative fields, including artificial intelligence, big data, microelectronics, biomedicine, fintech, insurtech, robotics, smart energy, green technology, e-commerce and education technology.
HKSTP hosted the “Empowering Global Expansion Through Hong Kong’s I&T Ecosystem — 2025 Tianjin–Hong Kong Tech Enterprise Exchange Forum” in Tianjin, with the support of Tianjin Science and Technology Innovation Development Center, Tianjin Municipal Investment Promotion Bureau, Northern Tech Innovation (Tianjin) Tech Enterprise Incubator Co., Ltd, and Tianjin Technology Transfer and Commercialization Investment & Services Co., Ltd., The event provided a high-impact platform for aligning policies and industry resources across the two places.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan delivered welcome remarks, highlighting the HKSAR Government’s strong commitment to deepening Tianjin-Hong Kong cooperation and driving innovation-led development. Aldous Mak, Chief Financial Officer of HKSTP, delivered speech at the event, emphasized Hong Kong’s strategic advantage as a “super-connector” and “value creator,” bridging global innovation through its unique position as part of China and a global hub. Mr Mak said: “HKSTP is committed to advancing Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem by offering world-class R&D facilities and international platforms for corporate engagement. We also promote cross-sector collaboration among government, industry, academia, and investors. Today, over 2,300 tech companies from 25 countries and regions operate within the park, spanning biotech, AI, fintech, and smart city solutions. Our mission is to support companies in going global, and investing in Hong Kong is a vital step toward international success.”
At the forum, Pheona Kan, Director of Business Development at HKSTP, shared insights on global expansion opportunities for startups within Hong Kong’s thriving innovation ecosystem. Mr. Wang Qiang, Division Chief of the Tianjin Investment Promotion Bureau, presented Tianjin’s investment climate and tech innovation initiatives.
This year’s Summer Davos Forum takes place from 24 to 26 June in Tianjin, under the theme “Next-Generation Entrepreneurship.” The summit gathers over 1,500 leaders from government, business, academia, civil society, international organizations, the innovation sector, and media to explore bold entrepreneurial solutions for a new economic era. It stands as one of Asia’s most significant global leadership platforms.
The HKSTP delegation’s visit to Tianjin and participation in the Summer Davos Forum align with HKSTP’s “attract in and expand out” strategy — supporting local startups in scaling globally while attracting international companies to invest in Hong Kong, further enriching the city’s innovation ecosystem and driving sustainable global impact.
