HKSTP Wins Leadership Category at CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2026
(Hong Kong, 6 May 2026) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) proudly announced that its leading influence in sustainability has been recognised by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), winning the Leadership category at the 2026 Building Performance Awards.
HKSTP, as the only Asia-based institution shortlisted in the category, stood out for actively piloting a wide range of new technologies, from solar and AI-based optimisation to IoT, mobility and energy-saving coating. While accelerating its own decarbonisation pathway, HKSTP also provides startups with real-world testbeds that they need to scale their innovations.
CIBSE judges acknowledged HKSTP’s support for green startups, green leases, sustainable catering and actions to reduce waste, and highlighted: “The impact of this entry is much wider than the development and organisation itself, creating a ripple effect for other businesses, individuals and the wider economy.”
Key initiatives recognised by the Awards include:
- Piloting a hydrogen-powered EV charging system, creating a hybrid solution that supplements grid supply while providing clean, resilient energy for EVs and on-campus use.
- Upgrading an ageing cooling system by deploying high-efficiency chillers, AI-driven optimisation and PICV upgrades, delivering a significant gain in efficiency and establishing a scalable model for future retrofits.
- Hosting one of Hong Kong’s largest on-site renewable energy networks, with more than 7,000 PV panels generating 1.7 million kWh in 2025.
- Having already achieved a 24% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions in 2025 against its 2020 baseline.
As the first statutory body in Hong Kong to achieve a Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-approved net zero commitment, HKSTP has pledged to achieve net zero by 2045, five years ahead of Hong Kong’s target. Building on CIBSE’s recognition, HKSTP will continue to take the lead in scaling green innovation, supporting green tech ventures and driving sustainable transformation across the city and beyond, demonstrating Hong Kong’s leadership in the global transition to a green future.
Filla Mak, Chief Property and Asset Officer of HKSTP, said: “HKSTP is honoured that our sustainability leadership has been recognised by CIBSE. This award reflects not only our own commitment to decarbonisation, but also our role in supporting tech ventures to pilot and scale their innovations. HKSTP will continue to lead from the front, inspiring wider action in green transformation across Hong Kong and positioning the city as an international powerhouse for green tech innovation.”
CIBSE is a leading global body for building services professionals, championing sustainability, innovation and building performance across the built environment, and the Building Performance Awards are renowned industry awards that focus on actual, measured performance outcomes to honour individuals and organisations for their contribution to efficient energy consumption and high-performance buildings.
