HKSTP Youth InnoExplorers Programme Brings I&T Education Beyond the Campus through AI Carnival

 

In response to the 2025-26 Budget’s commitment to driving I&T development, the HKSTP Youth InnoExplorers Programme–organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), funded by the HKEX Foundation, and supported by the HKSTP Foundation and the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Education Services—recently held its flagship event, the "AI Carnival," at Hong Kong Science Park. The event brought together nearly 140 local junior secondary school students, teachers, and principals, offering an immersive learning experience focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and education technology (EduTech) to spark students' interest in innovation and technology, laying a solid foundation for nurturing Hong Kong's next generation of I&T talent.

The AI Carnival broke the mould of traditional classroom settings by adopting an experiential learning approach to provide students with rich hands-on opportunities. In collaboration with multiple park companies, the event featured guided tours, tech showcases, and a series of small-group interactive workshops that showcased innovative solutions spanning AI, aviation, robotics, and sports technology. Students participated in workshops on AI coding, AI chess robotics, AI-assisted simulated flight navigation, AR sports technology, and microelectronics product assembly, and toured the Experience Centre at Hong Kong Science Park and the SenseTime AI Experience Centre. These hands-on activities gave junior secondary students unprecedented access to emerging industries, broadened their technological horizons, and inspired them to consider pursuing careers in I&T.

HKSTP is committed to supporting the HKSAR Government's vision of cultivating local I&T talent, focusing on identifying and nurturing future innovators at the secondary school level. Since its launch in October 2025, the "Youth InnoExplorers" programme has successfully connected over 20 secondary schools and dozens of park companies, providing more than 1,000 secondary school students with the opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies during their formative years, injecting a steady stream of fresh talent into Hong Kong's I&T ecosystem.

Photo 6: HKSTP incubatee Creato combined gamified challenges with AI technology, allowing students to step into the role of "flight planner." In a high-speed flight challenge, they used an AI Agent to analyse real-time data and chart the safest and most fuel-efficient flight routes.

Photo 7: Park company Coding101 offered "Vibe Coding" and smart license plate recognition workshops. Students not only used optical character recognition (OCR) technology to programme a license plate identification system, but also experienced AI's natural language understanding and creative generation capabilities.

Photo 10: Students also visited the SenseTime AI Experience Centre, where they gained a more in-depth understanding of cutting-edge AI technologies such as computer vision and autonomous driving through interactive exhibits. The visit enabled them to experience first-hand how AI is transforming daily life.
