HKSTP Delegation Visits Xi’an to Deepen I&T Collaboration between Shaanxi and Hong Kong
(Hong Kong, 27 August 2026) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) recently visited Xi’an and co-hosted the “2026 Shaanxi–Hong Kong Technology Innovation Collaboration Conference with Xi’an Jiaotong University, with the aim of fostering greater collaboration between Shaanxi and Hong Kong in technology results commercialisation, financing, talent exchange and overseas market expansion.
Xi’an is a leading technology hub in the western part of Chinese Mainland, with strong research and development (R&D) capabilities in hard tech. In January this year, HKSTP held the “Shaanxi–Hong Kong Technology Innovation and Capital Cooperation Summit” at Hong Kong Science Park to connect Shaanxi’s hard tech companies with Hong Kong’s financial capital, with a number of Shaanxi companies subsequently establishing a presence at the Science Park. Secretary Paul Chan also visited Xi’an in June to explore collaboration opportunities between Shaanxi and Hong Kong in frontier sectors including commercial aerospace, artificial intelligence, new energy and new materials. Building on this momentum, HKSTP organised a delegation to Xi’an together with Invest Hong Kong, the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and the Hong Kong Productivity Council to further deepen I&T collaboration between the two places.
Speaking at the event, Mr Conrad Chan, Member of the Board of Directors of HKSTP, said: “Xi’an is not only a city with a long history, but also a leader in scientific research. HKSTP will continue to leverage Hong Kong’s unique international advantages to build a sustainable platform for collaboration and deepen cooperation in frontier industries. We aim to help outstanding Shaanxi companies ‘go global’, while bringing leading innovation resources from around the world into the region.”
The event featured a series of thematic sessions showcasing Hong Kong’s unique strengths as an international financial, trade and innovation and technology (I&T) hub. During a panel discussion, speakers from Shaanxi companies and a representative from the Xi’an Jiaotong University Hong Kong Institute of Advanced Study explored how Shaanxi’s hard tech innovations can leverage Hong Kong’s international platform, access to capital and professional services to move from R&D in Xi’an to global application.
During the visit, the delegation also visited local innovation platforms and a number of I&T companies to learn more about Xi’an’s latest research developments. The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in areas including technology commercialisation, startup and talent development, and financing.
