DuRebars is a cost-effective, corrosion-resistant steel bar that has been developed by Prof. Teng Jin-Guang and his research team at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It serves as a substitute for existing technologies used to reinforce concrete structures in marine and other corrosive environments. DuRebars consist of a steel rebar as the core, coated with a thin layer of filament-wound fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) coating. This unique composition provides exceptional corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and structural ductility. Furthermore, a crucial advantage lies in the estimated overall cost of DuRebars, which is notably lower than stainless steel rebars and FRP bars. In fact, it is comparable to epoxy-coated steel rebars.
