On the morning of 7 October, a non-structural wall serving as corridor partition on the 7th floor collapsed at the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC), Tseung Kwan O InnoPark, managed by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). No injuries were reported, and the overall structural safety of the building remains uncompromised. HKSTP views this incident with the utmost seriousness and is rigorously following up to address the matter.
HKSTP has demanded the main contractor, Gammon Construction Limited (Gammon), to conduct a comprehensive safety inspection of similar corridor partition walls on all floors of the AMC. To ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the circumstances giving rise to this incident, we have demanded Gammon to expedite the process and submit a preliminary investigation report within the current week.
Tony Ho, Chief Project Development Officer of HKSTP, said: "Safety is HKSTP's top priority. To ensure the highest levels of safety and caution, HKSTP has taken immediate action and promptly notified all tenants of the AMC about the incident. We have also engaged in discussions to address the impact on affected tenants. Additionally, we will engage an independent third party to conduct professional inspections to provide utmost assurance of safety."
Stanley Chan, Executive Director of Gammon, said: "Safety has always been of utmost importance to Gammon. We have formed an independent task force immediately after the incident to undertake a detailed investigation. We are currently conducting a thorough examination of all the non-load bearing partition walls in the building.”
