Hong Kong, 1 April 2020 – Organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Hong Kong Science Park Virtual Career Expo 2020 (The Expo) reported a record number of 40,000 visitors and more than 200,000 pageviews, representing strong interest and mass participation from local and overseas I&T talent. The iconic event, staged for the first time on a virtual platform since 25 March, has already attracted at least 12,000 CVs from individuals in the first week alone.

Of the submitted CVs, 42% come from post-graduates while most of the rest are bachelor degree holders. 44% of all the CVs are from overseas, coming from 86 economies. Job openings for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics attracted the highest number of CVs (30%), followed by Smart City (26%), Fintech (23%) and Biomedical Technology (21%).

As Hong Kong’s first-and-largest-ever I&T online career fair, the Expo remains open to jobseekers and employers till 21 April. An increase in the number of hiring companies and job opportunities is expected in the next three weeks. To date, there are more than 1,100 positions currently offered by 170 companies.

Albert Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, said: “The massive turnout and overwhelming response from overseas demonstrate a strong resilience within the I&T sector, despite these challenging times.

Talent is at the heart of our I&T industry, and they will shape our future. With Hong Kong’s unique position as an international I&T hub in the Greater Bay Area, and home to many innovations, there is clear potential to boost our innovative capacity further. We hope to open the doors to a new world of possibilities through the Expo, and see more talent, local and overseas, joining us.”

The Expo provides a one-off platform allowing the companies that are seeking recruitment to utilise virtual exhibition booths to share career-related information, and hold on-demand live chats, webcasts and presentations to communicate with potential hires. Candidates can submit their resumes online and conduct instant interviews in a seamless virtual environment.

In its debut week, HKSTP held a total of 16 daily webinars, featuring I&T multinationals, trailblazing startups, industry experts and experienced recruiters who shared insights on the opportunities and career potential in Hong Kong’s I&T industry. Recordings of these webinars are available on the platform.
