(Hong Kong, 7 December 2022) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) featured fifteen outstanding edtech ventures at the Learning and Teaching Expo 2022 (the Expo) in a showcase of next-generation learning and teaching innovation to equip schools and teachers for a world of hybrid learning.

As Asia’s largest scale learning event, the Expo builds on the continued government drive to promote STEM education and transform schools and curriculums, while growing Hong Kong’s role as a regional education hub. Supported by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the Expo is the ideal platform for HKSTP’s most promising entrepreneurs to deliver their vision of learning and teaching innovation to help modernise education and upskill students for the digital economy.

Edtech is increasingly seen as fundamental to the transformation of education with students, teachers and administrators all adopting new tools, skills and knowledge to adapt to new ways of learning. The edtech sector is currently booming as 2021 saw funding hit record levels, with US$20.8 billion invested by venture capital firms globally, according to the global impact intelligence research firm Holon IQ -- 40 times the amount invested in 2010.

The fifteen HKSTP tech ventures at the Expo form an impressive edtech line-up that aims to spark a wave of new innovation across Hong Kong schools and the education sector. From AI, robotics to metaverse apps, 3D printing solutions and immersive VR/AR learning tools, an array of innovation from the HKSTP ecosystem has been on display at the HKSTP Pavilion. This rides on momentum from the HK$111.9 billion in funding announced for the education sector in the 2022-23 government budget and the encouragement from the government to educators to explore new technology and curriculums to drive more STEM education and uplift educator capabilities.

Kiki Wang, Head of Incubation and Acceleration Programmes at HKSTP, said: “At HKSTP, our goal is to leverage innovation and technology as a transformation agent for all sectors of society to propel a new era of growth. The fifteen edtech ventures from HKSTP on show at the Expo, represent genuine transformation pathways modernising schools and the education sector and shaping the future.”

Kiki continued, ‘’HKSTP has been striving to attract quality tech ventures and talents at different stages to join our programmes to turn their ideas into product or service and scale up their businesses. We believe edtech ventures can ride on our thriving I&T ecosystem to take Hong Kong as a springboard and go into GBA and beyond.’’

Currently around 25 edtech-related ventures participate in HKSTP incubation programmes, covering solutions for all levels of education to career coaching and even education for specific industries like aviation and construction. HKSTP has long committed to providing innovation support services to tech ventures by accelerating technology development and connecting them to education leaders across Asia, as well as business partners and enablers. This year the Expo has added a GBA focus into the event theme to highlight the growing opportunity for edtech ventures and for Hong Kong as becoming the regional education hub.
