HKSTP Celebrates Huge Turnout for "Happy Hong Kong" Bazaar @ Science Park Energising over 100,000 visitors of All Ages to Date

(Hong Kong, 11 August 2023) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is hailing the successful first week of its “Happy Hong Kong” Bazaar @ Science Park with its technology-inspired infusion of energy and excitement for citizens of all ages. The event has so far attracted over 100,000 visitors with smiles and laughter, over 750 of Happy Hong Kong Meals sold, in an array of fun-filled activities that has been a showcase of the I&T sector’s game-changing impact on society and daily life.

To share the outstanding achievements of innovation and technology (I&T) with the citizens, HKSTP has transformed the Science Park into a Bazaar of tech-driven fun and entertainment uniting the HKSTP community with the Hong Kong SAR Government and over 110 supporting parties to create an atmosphere of joy and togetherness for the public.

Highlights from the 10-day carnival include:

  • I&T Bazaar with over 180 “Innofactured in Hong Kong” products from park companies
  • “LOL Booster” to create the city’s first-ever AI-generated “I&T anthem” using laughter collected from visitors
  • AR-enabled “Smile Spots” capturing people’s joyous faces
  • "Happy Hong Kong Meals" featuring I&T-infused cuisines offered by 10 park restaurants and six food tech ventures (visitors can redeem a special edition Calbee Potato Chips or Yakult with the original receipt upon purchasing designated delicacies)
  • More than 70 STEAM workshops to inspire the next generation of I&T talent

From all the inventions and products on display at the I&T Bazaar, the best-selling items from the event included environmental-friendly cleaning products for washrooms and living rooms, washing machine cleaning tablets with natural bio-enzymes, as well as plant-based tiger nut frozen desserts developed by food tech park company.

To further promote the “Innofacturing” concept in Hong Kong, HKSTP organised a series of fireside chats – the Innofacturing Mixer, during the “Happy Hong Kong” Bazaar@ Science Park. Representatives from InnoParks companies, including Time Medical, Emerging Viral Diagnostics, Luen Tai Hong, Farm66, ASPACE Hong Kong Satellite Manufacturing Centre and Precisions Robotics, shared their “Innovated, designed and made in Hong Kong” experience with more than 200 industrialists, inspiring them to thrive in the future of innovation-powered manufacturing.

Ir Dr HL Yiu, Chief Corporate Development Officer of HKSTP, said: “We are delighted to welcome our innofacturers to the Innofacturing Mixer to help drive this era of new industrialisation. Their products showcased at the Bazaar demonstrate the eye-opening potential and success of HKSTP's Innofacturing vision. In line with the ‘new industralisation’ strategy stated in the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint, the Industrial Estates were repositioned to InnoParks in 2021. These provide state-of-the-art infrastructure to advance the “Innofacturing” concept, capture exciting opportunities for industry adoption of cutting-edge technology and creating quality jobs to accelerate a diversified economy.”
