Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), together with all colleagues grieve the loss of Mr Tung Chee Hwa, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the first and second-term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr Tung’s family
Mr Tung devoted his life to serving the country and Hong Kong. As a visionary leader, he was the founding pioneer and a key driving force behind the city’s innovation and technology (I&T) development. At a time when Hong Kong’s economy was dominated by finance and real estate, Mr Tung demonstrated extraordinary foresight and determination by charting a new path toward a knowledge‑based economy. He actively supported the growth of the technology sector and promoted economic diversification.
In his very first Policy Address, Mr Tung, with visionary foresight, pioneered a new era of information technology and proposed the development of the Science Park. He personally formulated the I&T development blueprint, driving the planning and construction of Hong Kong Science Park and laying a solid foundation for the city’s long‑term I&T development.
Today, Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem is thriving, with remarkable achievements that owe much to Mr Tung’s strategic vision and decisive leadership at that time.
HKSTP pays the highest tribute to Mr Tung’s outstanding contributions to the country and Hong Kong. We will continue to uphold his vision, deepen our commitment to I&T development, and strive to advance Hong Kong’s development into an international I&T hub.
