HKSTP Partner Companies Showcase More Than 30 Cutting-Edge Healthcare Solutions at the Flagship International Healthcare Week

(Hong Kong, 17 May 2024) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) actively promotes Hong Kong as a leading international hub for healthcare and biotechnology by participating extensively in the third International Healthcare Week (IHW), the city’s renowned health and care event. HKSTP showcased innovative technologies from 33 park companies with market-ready solutions at three of IHW’s flagship events. This participation significantly enhanced the global visibility of local biotech startups, facilitated business matching, and provided access to crucial investment opportunities. These strategic initiatives demonstrated HKSTP’s ongoing commitment to advancing the city's biotech ecosystem.

Disruptive Home-grown Biotech Solutions to Attract International Partners

During the highly anticipated IHW, HKSTP was prominently involved in the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) , and the Hospital Authority Convention 2024, from 16 to 18 May.

Dr Grace Lau, Head of Institute for Translational Research (ITR) of HKSTP, said, "Our continuous engagement in these significant events underscores our commitment to advancing Hong Kong as a leading hub for biotechnology. We provide essential platforms for innovators and entrepreneurs to demonstrate their cutting-edge solutions and establish vital global partnerships. We are dedicated to enhancing the connectivity of participating startups, paving the way for our biotech sector to compete and lead on an international stage."

At the Medical Fair, the HKSTP Pavilion featured 33 companies, 11 of which were invited to discuss innovative topics such as using extended reality (XR) for doctor’s surgical training, artificial intelligence (AI) for efficient medical image analysis, and 24/7 patient preventive care. The Fair allowed park companies to showcase a wide array of innovative technologies.

World’s first pioneering urine DNA concentration technology for cervical cancer screening captures spotlight

Highlights included the world's first cervical cancer screening test featuring patented urine DNA concentration technology, which offers a non-invasive, painless, and easy-to-use testing solution. Additionally, the advanced wearable device was presented, capable of providing real-time and continuous hemodynamic data, along with alerts to help reduce cardiovascular risks in a non-invasive way. Other notable technologies displayed were AI-powered tools, infection control solutions, and sophisticated systems designed for patient monitoring, rehabilitation, and surgical procedures. All these market-ready solutions are tailored to meet the city’s critical health and care challenges.

HKSTP also participated in the ASGH to reinforce Hong Kong’s leadership in the biomedical technology ecosystem. The Corporation supports biotech startups from initial breakthroughs to global business partnerships and investment opportunities. HKSTP successfully showcased its role and significant impact in the biotech sector to attending government bodies, renowned scientists, and industry leaders. It also promoted its comprehensive support services for translating scientific research at the ASGH.

At the Hospital Authority Convention, Park companies Syngular Technology and Motive Force Technology shared their expertise on using technology for clinician and patient training, highlighting HKSTP’s pivotal role in advancing the healthcare and biotechnology sectors.

Global Outreach at USA Achieving Next Milestone in BioTech Vibrant Ecosystem

To further shine on the global stage in the biotech sector, HKSTP will lead a delegation of 16 park companies to the prestigious BIO International Convention (BIO 2024) from 3-6 June in San Diego, US. At the world's largest and most comprehensive biotech event, the HKSTP Pavilion will feature cutting-edge solutions aimed at helping HKSTP’s partner companies reach international markets and scale up globally.

HKSTP continues to champion innovation and forge international collaborations, enhancing the development of the healthcare and biotechnology sectors and shaping a globally connected biotech ecosystem.
