Hong Kong Techathon 2023 Jointly Presented by HKSTP and Nine Universities Powering Innovation & Technology with Creative Solutions

Photo 1 & 2 : Hong Kong Techathon 2023, jointly organised by HKSTP and nine universities in Hong Kong, has successfully concluded with an award ceremony, celebrating a record-breaking number of participants, and the top three teams in each track will be eligible to join HKSTP’s IDEATION Programme.

Photo 6 : “417Tech” is the champion of the "ArtTech & EdTech" category. Team is from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Photo 7 : “RegEasy AI” is the champion of the " Fintech & Web 3.0" category. Team is from the University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong, 14 February 2023 – Jointly organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and nine universities in Hong Kong, namely the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, and joining for the first time, the Education University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the highly anticipated Hong Kong Techathon 2023 has successfully concluded with overwhelming support and applause. This year’s top three winning teams in each track, altogether 12 teams, will be entitled to joining HKSTP’s IDEATION Programme which will equip them with practical experiences to achieve future goals in their startup journeys.

We are thrilled to see this year’s record-breaking numbers - over 960 participants have joined the contest this year, and we look forward to all their innovative solutions brought to life with resources from seed funding and incubation support. I am particularly excited to witness the realisation of their goals and dreams that will bring positive impact to our society." 

60 innovative teams strive for the championship, seed funding of over $1 million and incubation support

60 innovation teams from the nine universities conceptualised their solution proposals with practicality and creativity under four categories, namely "ArtTech & EdTech", "Fintech & Web 3.0", "Healthcare & GeronTech" and "Smart Cities & Sustainability." Among the 60 teams, 12 have won and are awarded a total of HK$60,000 in cash, laptop computers, and all teams will be collectively entitled to seed funding amounted to over HK$ 1 million and incubation support. 

4 winning teams present AI-centric proposals catering for people of different social statuses

This year’s winning teams have shown a distinctive sense of diversity in their innovation proposals, targeting specific, human-centric needs that cover all walks of life. “417Tech,” champion of the "ArtTech & EdTech" category, speaks to the education sector with their solution. Infusing AI technology into an everyday communication platform between teachers and students, the solution is aimed at facilitating a more interactive, natural and lively teaching environment for speakers and audiences. “RegEasy AI,” champion of the "Fintech & Web 3.0" category, develops their AI-powered query tool with Machine Learning to provide consultation services in compliances on virtual asset ownership. Start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises can then navigate these processes at a lowered cost and can focus their resources on business innovation and development. "Healthcare & GeronTech" category champion “Fleming MedLab” has an eye on robots used in stroke recovery and rehabilitation training, so that medical practitioners and patients can all benefit from them; and "Smart Cities & Sustainability" category champion “BoostRider” aims to facilitate the development of smart wheelchairs with a manual assist tool for easier wheelchair maneuvering, bringing much convenience to the users.
