HKSTP Hosts Shenzhen-Hong Kong 5G Joint Roadshows to Showcase Deep Collaboration and Innovation Potential of the Greater Bay Area

Forging deeper engagement to advance development of Hong Kong Science Park Shenzhen Branch

(Hong Kong, 22 November 2021) Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has joined the Innovation and Technology Bureau of HKSAR Government, Shenzhen Leading Group Office for the Construction of Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone as well as Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone Development Co., Ltd to host a series of technology industry roadshows, starting with the first ever Shenzhen-Hong Kong 5G Joint Roadshows (the Joint Roadshows). Mr Alfred Sit, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Huang Min, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor and Member of the Party Leadership Group of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government separately attended the two simultaneous events in the two cities to provide the main event address. Ms Fang Lin, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission and Mr Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, also briefed audiences on the policies and I&T ecosystems of Shenzhen and Hong Kong respectively.

Backed by cutting-edge 5G technology, the Joint Roadshows were held simultaneously at Hong Kong Science Park in Hong Kong as well as the Shenzhen State-owned and State-owned Enterprise Industrial Innovation Center in the Futian Free Trade Zone in Shenzhen, gathering city leaders, industry experts, investment institutions, and business representatives to exchange and showcase local and international 5G technologies and scientific research. Themed "Innovate Together for A Brighter Future", the conferences brought together industry leaders and young entrepreneurs from the two cities to share their experiences and visions to promote joint policies and develop the I&T ecosystems of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

 Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP said, “5G is a pivotal global technology trend with the potential to enhance everyday lives and boost economic productivity. Hong Kong and Shenzhen both play an important role in driving its potential across the Greater Bay Area, and the Joint Roadshows have provided a glimpse of how we can collaborate in the long run. The collective ground-breaking innovation demonstrated by entrepreneurs and some of the finest R&D talent from these two cities will be proof of how Hong Kong can be a unique gateway into GBA technology and market opportunities while also be a launchpad for local innovation to go global.”

HKSTP is committed to fostering the cooperation in science and technology between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. HKSTP is speeding up the construction of Hong Kong Science Park Shenzhen Branch in Futian Free Trade Zone in Shenzhen to help institutions and enterprises interested in developing business in the Greater Bay Area to settle in Shenzhen. With Hong Kong’s advantage as an international gateway within the GBA, HKSTP will be setting up GBA InnoAcademy in the Shenzhen Branch to provide comprehensive services to I&T talent of both sides, covering three important functions of a resource center, a training hub, and an exchange platform. HKSTP will also establish GBA InnoExpress to provide business development support to I&T enterprises from the two cities.

The 5G Joint Roadshows included a co-sharing roadshow session featuring three companies from each city to showcase their innovative 5G projects. All three participating companies from Hong Kong are HKSTP Park companies:

Mechawaves (HKSTP incubatee)

Established in 2018, Mechawaves Manufacturing Ltd. is a pioneer in the area of microwave filer tuning and microwave filter design. Led by experts from academics and industry veterans in filter tuning algorithms and automatic and robotic technologies, they have developed a high-performance and fully automatic robotic filter tuning system, which is the most cost-effective solution for massive filter production for 5G and future mobile communication system. The company focuses on the development of microwave filter robotic tuning system with the “adaptive thinking” capability to convert a labor-intensive, and high tuning costs filter manufacturing process into a fully automatic production line. Their robotic filter tuning system, which integrates an intelligent filter tuning algorithm and a precise mechanical automation tuning robot, is specifically developed to fulfill the needs of future telecom equipment industry. They provide a unique filter tuning service and robotic tuning turn-key solutions to the global telecom equipment providers.

ANTwave Technology (HKSTP graduated incubatee)

ANTwave Technology Limited is a Hong Kong based technology company established in 2016. Based in Hong Kong Science Park, ANTwave targets to develop 5G and IoT wireless solution in indoor environment by modifying building material such as building glass, air inlet and concrete to become part of the antenna to enable wireless communication between outdoor and indoor environments. They also partnered with companies to provide 5G and IoT indoor products and sensors so that customers can enjoy their Smart Building service from wireless connectivity to application.

Velenova (HKSTP incubatee)

Velenova is a company deeply embedded in exploring and developing RF and Microwave Measurement Solutions by delivering systems and products to customers operating in the areas of 5G/6G communication, Satellites, Automotive and Vehicle, Wireless and EMC. Velenova pertains to the development of a hardware system as core modules of high frequency antenna measurement technologies for enhancing the R&D and the productivity of 5G/6G MIMO base station antenna products. We also develop advanced RF designs in multiple channel switching, wideband antenna technology with dual polarization, and distributed probe heads to improve the measurement speed of MIMO antennas. Through the use of their proposed modules, the capacity of existing antenna testing platform will be improved to support fast-efficient and cost-effective antenna measurement for 5G/6G MIMO antenna product developments.
