(Hong Kong, 28 January 2021) – – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has awarded a 10-year exclusive logistics services contract to DB Schenker, a global leading logistics service provider, to support the development of Asia’s first multi-industry advanced manufacturing facility, integrated with automated and smart logistics solutions. Located in in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate and developed by HKSTP, the facility named Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) will be completed in 2022 and designed to support high value-added and on-demand manufacturing in Hong Kong.
With "smart production" at its core, the AMC will harness DB Schenker’s logistics expertise and processes, to create a fully serviced production base, streamlining operations from manufacturing through to testing and end-to-end supply chain management, all in a single location. As the exclusive logistics partner to the AMC, DB Schenker is ready to offer a complete spectrum of supply chain management and value-added services for tenants across various industries.
The AMC is set to be a key driver in Hong Kong’s vision of re-industrialisation by making it accessible for innovators that demand world-class process excellence to innovate, design and manufacture their products in the city. The facility strives to be the place where innovations from Hong Kong and globally, will break through the barriers from research to industry, achieving remarkable commercial success.
Christopher Pollard, CEO of DB Schenker Greater China: "We are very excited to partner with HKSTP on the AMC, which integrates innovative manufacturing and logistics under one roof. Going beyond just an automated logistics center, the AMC houses tenants from diffuse industries to promote R&D and production activities. The multi-purpose use of this building not only forges a stronger partnership between manufacturers and brand owners through a more agile and collaborative supply chain, but also advances industrial transformation from the ground up.”
Albert Wong, CEO at HKSTP, said: “Our partnership with DB Schenker on the AMC, is a significant milestone and a testament to the positive progress in realizing Hong Kong’s re-industrialisation vision. The AMC combines best-in-class logistics with the latest advanced manufacturing technology to turn the “Made in Hong Kong” brand into ready-to-scale, ready-to-distribute, ready-for-market products, at rapid speed.”
DB Schenker’s automated and smart logistics solutions will be offered to AMC tenants across various industries, helping companies save valuable time via reduced raw materials lead time, on-demand production, smarter and quicker operations. With multiple functions under one roof, it means fewer touchpoints resulting in reduced handling and logistics costs. Tenants will be able to communicate seamlessly with DB Schenker through the Tenant Portal to place orders, monitor inventory balance, enquire order status and more. The new center will enable tenants to achieve lean manufacturing, real-time end-to-end visibility, and streamlined supply chain processes.
With DB Schenker’s support, tenants can focus on core research and development (R&D) and manufacturing activities with logistics automation in cooperation with a logistics expert.
