Hong Kong is expecting a rapidly ageing population. The associated issues, support and service needs will require immediate attention alongside with a multitude of relevant support services. The Healthy Ageing platform aims to be a critical platform connecting the elderly and elderly service providers, including care centres and social services, to understand the specific realistic needs, and to foster technology companies to provide the relevant innovative product solutions that would result in better quality of life for the elderly, and new businesses for the technology companies.

Innovative solutions can be created by blending cross-disciplinary technologies such as biomedicine, diagnostics, vaccines, IoT, robotics, big data analysis and the cloud, offering new horizons to company businesses and healthy ageing. Home-care robots or a network of in-home sensors linked directly to a caregiver’s smartphone, providing continuous monitoring of a patient’s medical conditions, may assist and complement the limited manpower in service provision.

Under this platform, HKSTP will connect partner companies to explore and catalyse new business opportunities on healthy ageing based on the four main service themes that the elderly, elderly centres and care providers may benefit from: nutrition, treatment & rehabilitation, preventive medicine and early diagnostics.

There are solutions such as home-care robots or networked in-home sensors linked to a caregiver’s smartphone to enable constant monitoring of a patient’s medical conditions. The solutions are useful tools to supplement the limited manpower for service provision.

Under the Healthy Ageing platform, HKSTP rallies partner companies to explore and catalyse new business opportunities on healthy ageing, based on the four main service themes that the elderly, elderly centres and care providers may benefit from – i.e. nutrition, treatment and rehabilitation, preventive medicine and early diagnostics.
