Setting up a mobile empire with OPPO
Balun was recognised by mainland mobile phone maker OPPO as the best lab partner, for its contribution to OPPO’s business development journey. As information technology, electronics and mobile telecommunications are advancing rapidly, OPPO has reached beyond the domestic market in China to become an international mobile phone brand in the global marketplace. The partnership between Balun and OPPO began with 2G and 3G and went deeper during the 4G phase. As the 5G era is arriving, the two companies have been working together on internationally compliant testing of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile networking technologies. This has enriched an outstanding OPPO mobile product line and helped it capture market opportunities.
Herman thinks that the partnership with OPPO’s mobile products is a commercial success and a confirmation of its strategy to “Co-create and Collaborate” with clients. Multi-dimensional expansion is in the offing
Herman says that 5G will be a major frontier for Balun, specifically the parts, terminal equipment, hand phones and signal base stations for 5G. As 5G applications will be wider and more complicated than previous generations, offering low latency operations and the Internet of Things, they need even more reliable and efficient testing. The company is striving to compete by developing vertical markets, such as providing testing services for IoT products for multiple industries. As well, the company is exploring collaboration opportunities with manufacturers of autonomous cars, which extensively use mobile communications and networking technologies.
Herman emphasises that Balun’s business scope goes well beyond networking communications. Its focus is on two long-standing categories for technological development, Information and energy. In the energy field, Balun believes that wireless charging stations and batteries for cars are promising markets. Blockchain technology that gives tech products definitive traceability in the supply chain is one tool that will give testing services even greater credibility.
