(Hong Kong, 2 March 2016) - Well Being Digital (“WBD101”), a Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”) incubatee focused on developing affordable and accurate sensing technologies for wearable devices, today announced that the company has won The Best Wearable Mobile Technology Award of the Global Mobile Awards (Glomo Awards) 2016 at GSMA Mobile World Congress with ActivHearts™, a patented innovation which uses all rounded multiple sensors technology that couples with longer wavelengths optical sensors such as infra-red that can penetrate deeper under the human skin to gather a wide spectrum of exercise-related parameters on their smart devices.

This year, the Glomos Award received a record high 930 entries from companies around the world. WBD101, alongside multinational corporations such as Intel, Epson, Guess and Motorola, was shortlisted as one of the five companies qualified for the final stage in the Best Mobile Handsets and Devices category.  In view of the continued expansion and development of Human Internet of Things (HIoT) and wearable devices, the judging criteria for The Best Wearable Mobile Awards this year were mostly based on whether the applicants’ technologies could fuel dynamic and incentive growth in the wearable sector.

To provide users with accurate, up-to-date information about their body during exercise, the ActivHearts™ technology captures biometric information and relays the data to the smartphones’ app. Users with the app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, can easily view information such as their heart rate and maximal oxygen uptake and use the data to tailor their workout to get the most out of their session.

“Winning The Best Wearable Mobile Technology Award marks a remarkable milestone in our venture”, said Wallace Wong, CTO & Founder of Well Being Digital Ltd and a graduate from The Engineering School of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology where his research and development journey started.   “Today’s achievement won’t be possible without the initial support from The Small Entrepreneur Research Assistance Programme (SERAP) of the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Hong Kong Government, which provided us with the critical funding resources at the beginning. We also owe big thanks to our incubator HKSTP, which has assisted us so much that we can accelerate our research into commercialised solutions."

“It is not an easy win but we made it”, said Kow, Director and Co-founder of Well Being Digital Ltd. “We are excited to see that ActivHearts™ is well-recognised by the judging panels for its potentials both in the business sense and in the betterment of human’s well-being. Like any winning technological solutions around the world, we started ActivHearts™ with a vision to provide an answer to a global issue. Our invention may be small in size but our ideal is to make it fit for anyone and everyone.”

“We are thrilled to hear that WBD101 has won the Glomo Awards”, said Allen Ma, CEO of HKSTP, “WBD101 demonstrates that Hong Kong does have outstanding innovative talent in our local technology scene.  HKSTP will continue to provide best-in-class training, support and value-added services to our incubatees and Park’s companies.  We look forward to seeing more of our local talents being recognised on the international stage as the Hong Kong innovation and technology ecosystem continues to thrive.”

Since inception, the Glomo Awards have been the biggest highlight of the annual Mobile World Congress.  The yearly awards showcase mobile industry’s greatest achievements and innovations. This year, the panel of judges has crowned more than 40 winners across eight categories.

"Our congratulations to all of the winners and nominees of the GSMA’s Glomo Awards," said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. "In what was a remarkably wide field of more than 930 entrants, narrowed to 170 nominees, it is truly an outstanding achievement to have been selected by our esteemed judging panels. We thank all of our entrants, judges, sponsors and partners for supporting the 21st Glomo Awards.”
