(Hong Kong, 13 November 2017) - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation’s (HKSTP) incubatee CamClaim Limited announces that its brand One2Paid has embarked on the first phase of a new mobile payment program for taxi fares in partnership with UnionPay International, China Mobile, K&R International Limited and Excellent Service Co Limited.

The programme is expected to help taxi drivers develop the habit of accepting mobile payments and enhance service quality at the same time. It is also another step towards realising Hong Kong’s smart city vision.

The first phase of the programme will be taken part by 15 urban and New Territories taxis. During the pilot period that will last for no less than three months, relevant journey data will be collected. CamClaim’s founder and CEO Ms Joey Lam said: “The One2Paid platform hopes to encourage passengers to pay taxi fares by mobile payments to support the development of fintech and smart city in Hong Kong. With partners such as UnionPay International in the programme, the development of mobile payments for taxi fares will be catalysed. It will also deliver greater convenience for taxi drivers, taxi companies and the general public.”

UnionPay International Hong Kong Branch’s Deputy General Manager Ms Michelle Shao said: “Hong Kong has always been a ‘showcase’ for UnionPay International’s innovative payment means. In June this year, UnionPay QR code payments was rolled out in Hong Kong. We are delighted to be taking part in this programme supported by HKSTP and CamClaim to provide a new electronic payment solution for Hong Kong taxis. Our solution encompasses credit cards, ATM cards and mobile payments. UnionPay cardholders can either tap or swipe their UnionPay cards or use mobile phones to pay their taxi fares. By the end of the year, participating taxis that have set up UnionPay payments will also be able to use UnionPay QR code payments, another step forward in smart city development.”

The smart mobile POS terminals used by One2Paid meet the security requirements of the PCI-PTS, EMVCO and UnionPay Certification standards, which will help to assure passengers and taxi drivers of transaction security. One2Paid will supply the mobile POS terminals for the operation, and Excellent Service Co will install them in taxis. Taxi drivers can accept payments by UnionPay credit cards or ATM cards issued worldwide. Participating drivers will also be issued a UnionPay prepaid card for collecting payments. The payments will be promptly deposited into drivers’ accounts within a day, for no service charge. Anthea Ip, CEO of Excelente Service Co. Limited which takes part in the first phase programme, said: “Drivers can improve their service and habits through the programme. It will enhance drivers’ professional image, which could ultimately help to increase their incomes.”

China Mobile will provide mobile network support for the programme, including free WIFI installations, to help One2Paid collect mobile payment environmental data. The smart commute programme will also be included in China Mobile’s “JegoTrip” App for greater exposure.
