(Hong Kong, 13 April 2019) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (“HKSTP”) is honoured to announce the outstanding achievements of 13 park companies at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, held in Geneva, Switzerland. They took home a total of 17 awards - seven Gold awards, eight Silver awards and two special awards including the most-honoured one for the event – the Grand Prix of the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, a prestigious achievement for GRST Holdings.

GRST Holdings’ innovation that impressed the judges was the WATMAR3, a water-based technology to manufacture and recycle Li-ion batteries. Other than promoting the recycling, regeneration and reuse of Li-ion batteries, the technology’s closed-loop system yields high battery performance and high-recovery recycling to reduce waste and VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions. GRST Holdings’ achievement this year follows a tradition of excellence by HKSTP park companies at the same event. Rehab-Robotics championed it in 2012 while Vitargent gained a victory in 2015.

The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious invention exhibitions in the world. Held between 10th and 14th April this year, the event presented over 1,000 new inventions and products by more than 800 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions.

To enable a vibrant innovation and technology (“I&T”) ecosystem, HKSTP is committed to supporting its incubatees and partner companies along their growth journey, from conceptualisation to commercialisation, with a full range of infrastructure and value-added services. It has been one of HKSTP’s key objectives to connect them with new opportunities around the world, and showcase Hong Kong’s exceptional innovative capabilities in the worldwide I&T arena.

Albert Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, congratulated the park companies on their overseas triumph and said: “We are proud that our homegrown inventions have received outstanding success and recognition internationally. This is a reflection that Hong Kong’s R&D capabilities and innovations have established a strong footprint in the global stage. Their success is our success, and as well as a motivation for HKSTP to achieve excellence in providing an enhanced R&D environment, all-rounded support services. While we strive to co-create an extended I&T ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area where new opportunities are emerging, may our park companies continue to gain success, inspire and collaborate with each other, and jointly develop Hong Kong as international I&T hub.”
