HKSTP Hosts a Human XRobot Basketball Competition to Showcase the “Work. Live. Play. Learn.” InnovationCulture

(Hong Kong, 11March 2021) – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) today staged its first-ever human x robot basketball competition at its brand new basketball court beneath Hong Kong Science Park’s iconic “Golden Egg” Charles K. Kao Auditorium. The event demonstrated the possibilities when great talent was immersed into the “Work. Live. Play. Learn.” innovation culture within the Park community.The event attracted university students and innovators in HKSTP ecosystem, with the winning team featuring students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Mr Jimmy Hon, Senior Engineer from Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI).

HKSTP strives to inspire future generations of innovation and technology (I&T) talent. This basketball competition provided a platform for the students to unleash their science and engineering potential, while also connecting with leaders from HKSTP’s world-class I&T ecosystem.The competition brought robotics talent from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to compete with robots they have developed from scratch. The student steamed up on court with leaders from the Park companies for a series of real-live basketball games.

Each team featured a university student controlling a robot, plus one human shooter from the Park community. The robots and human players assisted each other to complete passing, dribbling and shooting challenges to amass points.

This competition was the latest in a series of activities under the HKSTP membership programme, SPARK, which has a mission to connect, inspire, recharge and challenge the Park community. SPARK invites all innovators across the HKSTP campuses to join like-minded peers and forge an innovation-inspired community.
