2023 Hong Kong ICT Awards: Smart Mobility Grand Award – TriTerra Technology Limited

TriTerra Technology Limited, a graduate of the HKSTP incubation programme, clinched the "Smart Mobility Grand Award" for its "Kaihon1000 Smart Power Station". This portable, flexible power solution caters to various environments, from outdoor and emergency situations to solar power generation. Its LLC resonant inverter technology with an efficiency of up to 97% ensures true IP55 weatherproof applications and a compact product design. The product's built-in UPS function continues to power crucial instruments during power grid disruptions or outages.

Mr Cyrus Wong, CTO and Co-Founder of TriTerra Technology Limited, said: "Receiving this award is a profound honour and signifies a crucial milestone for us. As graduates of the HKSTP incubation programme, we've benefited immensely from the consistent support of Science Park's I&T ecosystem. We aspire to broaden the application of these solutions, advocating their usage as practical, eco-friendly innovations and providing flexible electricity access to remote communities. Our ultimate aim is to proliferate this technology on a global scale."

2023 Hong Kong ICT Awards: ICT Startup Grand Award – LaSense Technology Limited

LaSense Technology Limited, an incubation graduate specialising in early lung cancer screenings using laser spectroscopy technology, was honoured with the "ICT Startup Grand Award". Established at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020, LaSense has experienced significant growth since joining HKSTP's Incubation Programme.

LaSense Technologies' Chief Scientist, Professor Ren Wei, is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. LaSense’s CEO and founder, Dr Xu Ke, said: "We are profoundly thankful for the continuous support from HKSTP and CUHK in transitioning university research into commercial projects for public benefit. Lung cancer in its early stage has a survival rate of up to 90%, yet is typically symptomless, leading to late diagnosis in most instances. Motivated by research successfully identifying 90% of early lung cancer patients through analysis of exhaled volatile organic compounds (VOCs), LaSense has developed the first laser analytics device in the world specifically designed for lung cancer screening, utilising advanced Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) laser technology. Our solution, with its extraordinary sensitivity, precision, stability and rapid response, drastically reduces hardware and operating costs by a factor of five compared to traditional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) methods. With a single button operation, the device analyses VOC content in breath samples within one second to provide diagnoses."

Achieving the ICT Startup Grand Award signifies a major landmark for LaSense. Over the past two years, the company has made significant strides by applying advanced laser spectroscopy technology in the health and medical field. Beyond the commercialisation of medical technology, in 2022, LaSense also launched the first batch of domestically produced high-precision greenhouse gas analysers in the field of carbon neutrality. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, LaSense collaborated with the Belt and Road Environmental Technology Exchange and Transfer Center to establish a Carbon Monitoring Innovation Centre. Currently, LaSense operates research and development bases in Qianhai Shenzhen and at HKSTP, having secured financing exceeding RMB 30 million.

2023 Hong Kong ICT Awards: Smart People Grand Award – Cognitact Limited

Cognitact Limited, an innovative startup under the InnoHK research and development platform, which is dedicated to the early detection of Alzheimer's disease, was honoured with the Smart People Grand Award this year. The project, licensed from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), applies HKUST’s blood biomarker analysis research to develop the PlasmarkAD® blood test service. Through analysing a single drop of blood from a sample, the PlasmarkAD blood test can diagnose Alzheimer’s disease 5 to 10 years before clinical symptoms manifest with over 96% accuracy. The technology is now commercially available in Hong Kong's healthcare market.

Dr Joyce Ouyang, Manging Director at Cognitact Limited, said: "With the support from the HKSAR Government's InnoHK initiative and HKSTP's I&T ecosystem, we are immensely pleased to have converted the technology licensed from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology into a beneficial testing service for the public in a brief period.

With our firm commitment to pioneering technology and innovation, Cognitact Limited aims to make a significant contribution to the biotechnology and healthcare sectors, benefiting an ageing society with state-of-the-art technology. Looking forward, our focus is on strengthening collaborations with local neuroscience specialists, hospitals, and research institutions in Hong Kong, enhancing local screening services, and broadening our reach into mainland China's market to establish an exhaustive proteomic biomarker database for Alzheimer's disease. By harnessing a more comprehensive dataset, we aim to refine our machine learning algorithms to achieve superior accuracy."
