International platform for exchange of insights in latest development in transport, building, lighting and renewable energy
Hong Kong, December 10, 2008 -- Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) today hosted InnoAsia 2008 which is part of the Business of Design Week (www.bodw.com), Asia’s leading conference on design and innovation. This year’s InnoAsia is themed “Enabling Sustainability”, with focus in areas of transport, green building, lighting and renewable energy.
Mrs. Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government officiated at the opening of the conference which had attracted world-class experts from the Netherlands, China, Australia, Switzerland and the USA to share their research and vision for sustainable development with innovative and cutting edge technology.
Highlights of the conference included sharing from Prof. Wubbo Ockels of the AeroSpace Sustainable Engineering and Technology (ASSET) of Delft University of Technology, whose Superbus project envisages the mode of future transportation. Being an astronaut, Prof. Ockels demonstrated his masterpiece which combined high-speed, leading-edge aerodynamic technology transport with road vehicle flexibility. Another keynote speaker, Dr. Doug Muzyka, President of DuPont Greater China, shared the development of DuPont’s key initiatives in renewable energy, photovoltaics and biofuels and how they can contribute to meet global challenges.
The distinguished panel of speakers and focus on environment has drawn an overwhelming turnout with over 500 participants including architects, eco designers, business representatives and students attending the conference.
Hosting the conference for the fourth year, Mr Nicholas Brooke, Chairman of HKSTPC, commented, “Creating a cleaner, greener world through sustainable development is the greatest challenge of our generation and the consequences of ignoring the severe impact we are having on our planet will be catastrophic. HKSTPC is leading by example with extensive energy-efficient and ‘green building’ initiatives. This is reflective of the need, and shows the way for every responsible corporate citizen of Hong Kong to adopt environmentally-friendly best practices and to contribute to a better quality of life.”
Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks is committed to the development of renewable energy and responsible, sustainable development -- in line with both the Hong Kong SAR Government's vision to create a 'green Hong Kong' and Mainland China’s ambitious targets for energy-efficiency improvement and renewable energy exploitation.
Sponsors of InnoAsia 2008 are Lighthouse Technologies Limited, DuPont China Ltd, NGC Network Asia, LLC National Geographic, Philips Electronics Hong Kong Ltd, CLP Power and Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd.
