Biotech Centre opens at Hong Kong Science Park as part of a series of moves to boost the life science industry

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has reinforced its commitment to the biotechnology industry with the opening of a dedicated Biotech Centre. The initiative was accompanied by the launch of a Life Science Acceleration Programme (LAP) jointly with Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading global pharmaceuticals company Pfizer, Inc.

HKSTP Life Science Follow-Up Project

In 2004, Ventac Partners (VP) and HKSTP published a study concluding that Hong Kong could build a robust biotech industry. The present report reaffirms that conclusion and documents the continued strong capabilities of the region in the life sciences.

Taken together with emerging technology strengths from the Pearl River Delta region, VP believes Hong Kong has the resources to grow an international class biomedical cluster that could serve as a hub for the entire HK-PRD region. This report contains VP's findings and a roadmap for converting these concepts into tools to creat sustainable new businesses for HKSTP.
